MIPA DOCTORAL PROMOTION TRIAL 2026

The Doctoral Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Lampung is a higher education program that aims to produce superior, innovative and competitive human resources in the development of science and technology. One of the final stages that Doctoral Program students must go through is the Doctoral Promotion Session as a form of academic accountability for the results of research that has been carried out.

In 2026, FMIPA Lampung University will again hold a Doctoral Promotion Session which is an important momentum in the development of science, especially in the fields of health and molecular biotechnology. It is hoped that this promotional session will provide a significant scientific contribution to the development of methods for diagnosing infectious diseases in premature babies and support improving the quality of health services in Indonesia.

The activities of the Doctoral Promotion Session aim to:

  1. Assess the academic abilities and research competencies of doctoral candidates.
  2. Test the quality and originality of dissertation research results that have been carried out.
  3. Produce doctoral graduates who are able to make a real contribution to the community. development of science and technology.
  4. Disseminating research results that have the potential to provide benefits to the world of health and society at large.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Lampung has held a Doctoral Promotion Session on behalf ofDr. Dr. Leni Ervina, M.Kes., Sp.A., Subsp. Neo(K)in 2026. The promotion session took place solemnly and was attended by academics from the University of Lampung, academics, health practitioners, as well as invited guests from various local government agencies.

In the session, promovendus defended his dissertation entitled“Identification of Pathogenic Bacteria Based on Metagenomics Next Generation Sequencing Oxford Nanopore Technologies (NGS-ONT) as a Model for Early-Onset Sepsis Screening Early Premature Babies at Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek Regional General Hospital.”

The research carried out is a scientific study that is very relevant to the development of modern diagnostic technology in the health sector. This dissertation explores the use of metagenomic technology based on Next Generation Sequencing Oxford Nanopore Technologies (NGS-ONT) to identify pathogenic bacteria that cause early-onset sepsis in premature babies more quickly and accurately. It is hoped that the results of this research can become an innovative diagnostic examination model in handling cases of neonatal sepsis so as to increase the survival rate of premature babies and support more effective clinical decision making.

The Doctoral Promotion Session was led directly byDean of FMIPA Lampung University, Dr. Eng. Heri Satria, S.Si., M.Si, who acted as Chair of the Session. During the trial process, promovendus explains the results of the research, the methodology used, scientific findings, and the contribution of research to the development of health science and technology.

The examiners provide various questions, input, and in-depth research into the substance of the research to ensure the academic quality and scientific contribution of the dissertation submitted. Through academic discussions that took place constructively, promovendus was able to answer and defend his scientific arguments well, thus showing in-depth mastery of the field of research he was involved in.

This promotion trial activity also received attention and support from various parties. Present as a special invited guestDeputy Governor of Lampung, Dr. Jihan Nurlela, along with the Regents and Deputy Regents of Lampung Province. The presence of these regional leaders is a form of appreciation for academic achievements as well as support for the development of research and innovation that can be used to advance regional development, especially in the health sector.

The atmosphere of the session was solemn, academic, and full of the spirit of collaboration between universities, regional government and the world of health. The presence of regional officials shows a shared commitment to supporting improving the quality of human resources and developing research that has a direct impact on society.

Implementation of the Doctoral Promotion Session on behalf of Dr. Dr. Leni Ervina, M.Kes., Sp.A., Subsp. Neo(K) is one of the important achievements of the FMIPA University of Lampung in producing quality doctoral graduates who are able to make a real contribution to the development of science. It is hoped that the resulting dissertation can become a scientific reference as well as innovation in developing methods for diagnosing early-onset sepsis in premature babies through the use of NGS-ONT-based metagenomic technology.

The success of holding this promotional session further strengthens the role of FMIPA University of Lampung as a higher education institution that continues to encourage the birth of superior and innovative research to support the progress of science, technology and health development in Indonesia.
