HIMBIO FMIPA Expedition Division, Lampung University Successfully Holds a Series of Observer Group Activities in 2026

In an effort to increase the competency of Observer Group members, the Expedition Division of the Biology Student Association (HIMBIO) FMIPA, University of Lampung held a series of Observer Group (KP) activities in 2026. Activities began with the Observer Group Debriefing on 18 April 2026 and continued with the Observer Group Camp on 29–31 May 2026 in the Gunung Betung area, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung. This series of activities aims to equip members with basic knowledge as well as provide practical field experience in observing and identifying fauna.

The briefing activity was opened by the Head of the Expedition Division of HIMBIO FMIPA, Lampung University, then continued with a welcome and official opening by the Chair of HIMBIO who was represented by the Secretary of HIMBIO FMIPA, Lampung University. Next, participants received material regarding techniques for observing, identifying and recording fauna data delivered by experienced presenters. Entomofauna material was presented by Sultan Jafar, Avifauna material by Bagus Octavian, and Herpetofauna material by Davit Aditya. Through this briefing, participants gain theoretical understanding as a provision before carrying out observation activities in the field.

As a follow-up to the briefing activities, participants attended an Observer Group Camp for three days in the Mount Betung area. This activity is a means for members to apply the material they have obtained through the practice of observing and identifying avifauna, entomofauna and herpetofauna in their natural habitat. Apart from improving species identification skills, participants were also trained to systematically record field data and understand the importance of ethics in wildlife observation activities.

During the activity, participants succeeded in identifying 40 entomofauna species with a total of 85 individuals, 11 avifauna species, and 9 herpetofauna species with a total of 30 individuals. The results of this inventory show the high potential for fauna diversity in the Mount Betung area as well as being a valuable experience for participants in applying biodiversity inventory methods directly in the field.

Through a series of 2026 Observer Group activities, the HIMBIO FMIPA Expedition Division of Lampung University hopes that members will not only have theoretical understanding, but also practical skills in carrying out fauna observations scientifically, systematically and responsibly. It is hoped that this activity will provide provisions for HIMBIO members to support various research activities, exploration and biodiversity conservation efforts, as well as raise awareness for the preservation of fauna and natural ecosystems.
