Bandar Lampung, 9 June 2026 – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) University of Lampung again recorded academic achievements through holding the Doctoral Promotion Session for the MIPA Doctoral Study Program (S3) which was held on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, at the FMIPA Dean's Meeting Room, University of Lampung, Floor III.

The doctoral promotion session was attended by Dr. Rico Andrian, S.Si., M.Kom., who successfully defended his dissertation entitled "Evaluation of Deep Learning Performance for Identification of Sumatran Butterfly Species Based on Data Augmentation." Through this research, Dr. Rico Andrian studied the use of artificial intelligence technology (Artificial Intelligence), especially the Deep Learning method in identifying various butterfly species found on the island of Sumatra with the support of data augmentation techniques to increase the accuracy of classification models.

This doctoral promotion session activity was led directly byDr. Eng. Heri Satria, S.Si., M.Si, as Dean of FMIPA, University of Lampung who acted as Chair of the Session. Also present at the hearing wereDr. Khoirin Nisa, S.Si., M.Si.as Head of the MIPA Doctoral Study Program (S3), along with a team of promoters and examiners who provided an assessment of the scientific quality of the dissertation presented.

The promoter team who accompanied the dissertation preparation process consisted ofProf. Drs. Admi Syarif, Ph.D. as Promoter, Favorisen Rosyking Lumbanraja, S.Kom., M.Si., Ph.D. as Co-Promoter I, andProf. Dr. Emantis Rosa, M.Biomedas Co-Promoter II. Meanwhile, the testing team consisted ofDr. Aristoteles, S.Si., M.Si. as Internal Examiner and Julian Supardi, M.T., Ph.D. as External Examiner.

This doctoral promotion trial aims to comprehensively evaluate the results of the dissertation research that has been carried out by promovendus as well as being the final stage in the doctoral education process. Apart from that, it is hoped that the research raised can make a real contribution to the development of science, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital image processing, and conservation of Indonesia's biodiversity through automatic and accurate identification of butterfly species.

During the trial, promovendus explained the research results in front of the examining team and the guests present. Various questions, input and scientific discussions take place dynamically to test the depth of analysis, research methodology and scientific contribution of the proposed dissertation. After going through the evaluation and deliberation process of the examining team, Dr. Rico Andrian was declared successful in defending his dissertation well and officially obtained a Doctorate degree at the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Doctoral Study Program, FMIPA, University of Lampung.

This activity was also attended by special invited guests, promovendus families, academics from FMIPA, University of Lampung, lecturers, students and colleagues who provided support and appreciation for the academic achievements achieved. The atmosphere of the trial was solemn, full of pride, and became an important momentum in the development of superior human resources within the University of Lampung.
